3D Foot Mapping System

Once again ASICS takes performance footwear technology to new heights with the introduction of its 3D Foot Mapping system facility at its new flagship London store. The system, available to all consumers wanting to purchase the most perfectly fitting running shoe to suit their running style, employs a myriad of technologies to provide the ultimate in matching performance running footwear to the individual’s feet.

Sitting alongside ASICS’ proven gait assessment areas, the new 3D Foot Mappers utilise laser beams and micro cameras to map each runner’s foot, further aligning the results to a huge database of foot sizes and shapes to find the perfect pair of running shoes.

Ryoji Sekito, ASICS UK’s managing director, says the new system uses the same approach to footwear design and technology engaged at the brand’s R&D facility in Kobe, Japan. “The new 3D Foot Mapper takes the technology ASICS uses when developing optimal footwear and tailors it to the wearer’s specific needs. From the precise readings given in-store, ASICS staff are able to recommend the perfect pair of running shoes that enhance wearer comfort, functionality and performance. This is a unique facility not offered in the same breadth by any of our competitors. We anticipate serious running enthusiasts will be eager to take advantage of this state of the art service available at our new London flagship store.”

The 3D Foot Map system works on a cross-section of lasers and cameras. The consumer simply stands on two pads located on the 3D Foot Mapper and ASICS staff enter their main details to the database, meaning that should they choose to continue to monitor how their feet and running needs change, they can also enhance and adapt their footwear.

When the scan is complete, ASICS staff can review every aspect of the consumer’s feet through a scan interface. A full 3D rendering of the foot is available on screen, taking up 43 marker positions and calculating points as well as 22 measuring items to assess the right shoe to suit the consumer. The 3D Foot Mapper ably measures different feet axis and toe angles making it the most precise fitting system currently available.

No booking is neccessary, so why not come into the store to find out more. There may be a charge for this service, but this is redeemable against a purchase in store.
